PAPILIONOIDEA – FEAR
Almost everyone has an irrational fear of something. However, it is difficult to explain the overwhelming anxiety or panic felt toward a beautiful and gentle species such as the butterfly. My book is a story of a fear of butterflies brought to life visually which negates your perception of beauty associated with a butterfly.
The collages explore the morphology of a butterfly that serves to distort aspects of the butterfly in ways that convey images of fear, repulsion and horror. The typography brings to life my person fears through poetry that form a visual parallel of the butterfly wings. My main title typeface is benguita which is inspired by popular teen series Stranger Things to portray the monstrous quality of the butterfly presented in each section. This project helps bring expression to my fears and in doing so it helps me deal and cope with it a little more.
